5 Steps of Cleaning the Pool Table in Your Home

When you have a pool table in your home, you will certainly want to preserve the good look of this specific furniture piece. In this case, the polished look goes hand in hand with the functionality of the pool table itself. Just like the price of the whole bulky item, the repair of the damaged felt cover can be dear to you. And you don't want your pool table to look like coming right from a bar used as a set of 1980s action movies, do you? You can book for services provided by professional cleaners. Or, you can use the following tips and spare yourself the need for a purchase of new felt covering.

Get Special Tools for Cleaning of Felt

First of all, you will need a couple of items for the job. Search for cleaning tools from the store where you purchased the table or use an e-commerce website to get a brush for pool table cleaning and a solution. These are the two items that you need, besides the regular tools for the clean-up of fabrics – a damp white cloth, warm water and vacuum cleaner with soft brush attachment.

Don't Start With the Stains

If you identify stains on the surface, don't rush in to clean them first. You will need to proceed with general cleaning first. Start with the rails. You can brush them with the aforementioned tool once in a week. However, you may need to do this after you're finished with your daily games. Brush gently to avoid potential damage or wearing of the felt.

Quick and Short Strokes from the Centre

Use your pool brush/broom to make quick and and short strokes outwards. Start with the centre – the place where most of the action occurs. Work your way towards the corners and the pockets. You will also need to repeat the process by starting from one end toward the opposite side. While not necessary at first glance, this second turn will ensure that you haven't miss anything.

Use a Hand Held Vacuum Cleaner

Or at least one with a soft brush attachment. Pay attention to the corners but save the most detailed cleaning for the pockets – this is the place where most of the grime gathers.

Final Step – Rag and Cleaning Solution

Choose a clean white cloth to make sure that the colour of the pool table top is not stained. Now that you passed through dusting and vacuum cleaning, it is time to use a special cleaning solution for stains on felt. First, make sure the cloth is damp and not wet. Otherwise, you will damage the felt permanently. Sprinkle the cleaner on the damp cloth and press against the stain lightly several times until the stain comes out. Make sure that you dab, no rubbing moves! Let the pool table top dry completely before you start playing.
