Spring Cleaning Traditions And Rituals From All Over The World

There are different traditions throughout the world. If you are interested in learning the various spring cleaning traditions keep on reading, because we have listed some of the most peculiar ones below.

China

The Chinese New Year is celebrated somewhat between late January to mid- February depending on the moon phases. Thus the Chinese New Year is also known as the Lunar New Year. The Chinese New Year festivities unlike the Christian New Year ones continue for several days. The first day of the celebrations marks the end of the winter season and the arrival of spring. This means that the Chinese people conduct their spring cleaning in the days prior of the Chinese New Year, because according to their tradition their houses must be immaculately clean for the arrival of the spring. During the spring cleaning the Chinese repaint their homes and fix anything that is broken. They also leave the broom with which they have cleaned their home on the front porch for several days after the arrival of the New Year so that they don't sweep their good fortune away.

Persian Traditions

In the Persian culture the first day of spring is the first day of the Persian calendar, and it's known as the Nowruz. The Nowruz is celebrated in numerous Middle East and Central Asian countries. Just like with the Chinese New Year people are accustomed to clean their homes before the arrival of the spring. The cleaning ritual that is conducted before the Nowruz is known as the Khaneh-Tekani, which literally translated means "shaking house". According to the Persian traditions the Khaneh- Tekani cleaning routine chases away the evil spirits that have found a save harbour in the one's home during the year.

Spring Solstice

To Western civilization spring arrives at the 20th of March and the day is known as the Spring Solstice. It is after the Spring Solstice that people clean their houses and get rid of the things that they no longer need. However unlike the Eastern cultures a lot of people in the west do not conduct the spring cleaning on their own but instead they hire professional cleaners to help them out. For instance the British hire a cleaner to manage the spring cleaning of their whole household.

Songkran - The Water Fest in Thailand

In Thailand April 13th marks the beginning of the Songkran which is a two-day festival that marks the arrival of spring. During the festivities the Thai people do not clean only their homes but the numerous statues of Buddha inside their homes and shrines.

Just in case you still haven't spring cleaned your home, do not start worrying. Keep in mind that professional cleaners have many useful options, which can be tailored to match your customs and requirements, regardless of your origin and traditions.
